TanakaSan Restaurant Review: This dazzling, light-filled space feels as if it belongs in downtown Tokyo. On the ground floor of a stylish apartment building, the oft-packed dining room buzzes with the happy sounds of diners slurping big bowls of deeply flavored ramen and satisfied sighs while supping on the eclectic line-up of updated Asian fare. Chef Eric Tanaka, longtime business partner of Tom Douglas, draws inspiration for dishes such as spicy chicken wings, the Osaka pancake, and the family fried rice from his childhood in Pasadena, Calif. Don't miss the happy hour when dim sum portions of some of the most popular starters are showcased. Smoked duck sausage in soft pinch buns is two bites of pure bliss, and the soy cured eggs over Dungeness crab offers a whimsical take on the old surf ‘n’ turf. There's also a notable selection of cocktails, many featuring saké and soju, a distilled beverage native to Korea.
