 Dominating this 400-seat Asian bistro is a hand-carved 20-foot-high Buddha in a koi-filled reflecting pool, serenely gazing down on the vibrant scene dotted with Asian baths and moats filled with flowers and candles. Topped by a towering ceiling and red Murano glass chandeliers, the 42,000-square-foot complex also houses a sushi bar and a hip nightclub and ultra-lounge with nightly DJs. Specializing in Hong Kong Chinese, Japanese and Thai cuisines, Tao designs small plates for sharing. Among them, we like the crispy lobster and shrimp dumplings, Peking duck spring rolls with hoisin glaze, and roasted shishito peppers with a hint of yuzu. Special dishes include salmon sashimi with avocado, crispy onions and sweet and spicy sesame sauce; yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño and ponzu sauce; and thinly sliced Japanese snapper with chili sauce. Save room for the giant fortune cookie filled with white and dark chocolate mousse. The extensive wine list and more than 30 sakés, many by the glass, nicely complement the fare. |
