Taqueria Cuernavaca Restaurant Review: As you load up on freshly blended salsas, pause to watch the inner workings of this unassuming gem. You will see traditional tacos come out of the immaculate kitchen. They will hold harmoniously spiced and marinated meats like asada and lengua, unadorned, piled atop fresh corn tortillas. But this isn’t your typical taqueria. The regional version of white pozole is a clean balance of textures and flavors --- fork-tender pork and dense nuggets of hominy in a light yet spicy broth; crunchy taquitos topped with ricotta are served on the side. A thick blanket of melted cheese holds either potato or marinated mushrooms and roasted peppers together in a duo of vegetarian tacos. The room is a simple rectangle looking onto Ventura Avenue, but on Friday evenings, when the back patio is dedicated to tacos al pastor and sweet pineapple juice is dripping down that rotating cone of marinated pork, you’d swear you were in Cuernavaca. |
