A Tavola Restaurant Review: Belly up to the bar and you'll find something special --- not just wood tables made by one of the owners, but hand-crafted everything. At A Tavola, in the trendy, renovated Gateway Quarter of Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, a huge wood-fired oven imported from Italy takes center stage in a setting that's perfect for small groups or first dates. Start with dates filled with sausage, wrapped in bacon, and served with tomato sauce. Or get your bacon fix with bruschetta topped with bacon tapenade and goat cheese. Try the wood-roasted asparagus and pine nuts salad. Move on to a pizza with a unique topping, maybe Brussels sprouts, caramelized onions and Fontina, or perhaps white anchovies, parsley butter, Fontina and arugula with lemon olive oil. Sliders abound, with beef, chicken or eggplant varieties. If you save room for dessert, the soft-serve salted caramel ice cream hits the spot. A Tavola offers a choice of ice cream toppings, too, ranging from toasted marshmallow to a shot of bourbon.
