Over the years, Tazza has morphed from a humble coffeehouse to a full-blown restaurant and entertainment venue. Located in Downcity Providence's historic Alice Building, this funky urban gathering place houses tables, couches and a coffee bar in its brightly lit space, hung with orange and red lanterns. Coffee cognoscenti taking an afternoon break wisely bypass the nearby Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts for Tazza, which uses the fourteen-hour, cold-extruded method to brew superior iced java. There’s also a menu of salads, burgers and favorites like the three-cheese panino. After nightfall, Tazza is transformed into a low-key performance space, with college students cruising in to catch live jazz, funk and impromptu jam sessions fueled by caffeine and stronger stuff --- not to mention a full gourmet menu featuring the likes of osso buco and fricasséed rabbit --- well into the evening.
