Dining room at Terrapin Creek Cafe Restaurant, Bodega Bay, CA

Terrapin Creek Cafe Restaurant Restaurant Review

: Just outside Bodega Bay proper, where Highway 1 turns its back on the ocean, lies Terrapin Creek, a restaurant tucked into a cozy shopping center. The intimate dining room feels immediately cheery from yellow-orange walls, generous windows and tea lights. It’s further warmed by the devoted hospitality of the husband-wife chef team who graciously and capably work both the kitchen and front of the house. This is no chowder shack; it’s a refuge for artfully prepared cuisine that exploits the season’s freshest. It’s easy to heavy-up on tempting starters: a pair of pan-seared scallops on a bed of parsnip purée with shaved fennel and apples dressed with bacon vinaigrette; golden sweet corn soup laced with butter and jalapeño oil; juicy summer peaches intermingled with heirloom tomatoes and fresh mozzarella and dotted with poblano-balsamic salsa. But don’t miss entrées such as a thick filet of crisp-skinned local wild salmon with rapini and pork sausage, or house-made fettuccine with Moroccan-style grilled ground lamb with mint and feta. Finish with homey, elegantly prepared desserts, perhaps cocoa nib cake or caramel bread pudding. Welcome details include too-hot-to-touch plates, tasty crusty bread and savvy wine pairings.
