Tessaro's Restaurant Review: At Tessaro's heart is a 500-degree hardwood-fired grill that produces sizzling steaks, burgers, fish and chicken. But for years the restaurant's soul lay with a gregarious Irishman, owner Kelly Harrington. After his untimely death, his mother Tee, the convivial family matriarch, stepped in to assure that the Tessaro's spirit lives on. Today his siblings also work to maintain a quintessentially family-run neighborhood mainstay. Homemade soups, potato salad and coleslaw are Tee’s recipes, made fresh daily. And she also painted the murals --- six brightly colored images depicting family, friends and employees, real people, mingling and enjoying life. Always a contender for the best burger in town, the kitchen has expanded its burger offerings --- now to include a bacon and egg breakfast burger as well as a hamburger salad. The menu's extensive fish repertoire also impresses, especially with exotic Hawaiian species. Among nightly features: Mexican specials rule from Monday evening through Tuesday lunch; Thursday is rib night. Draught beer prevails, though there's a quite basic list of wines by the glass. The restaurant famously doesn't serve dessert.
