| At Tessaro's heart is a 500-degree hardwood-fired grill that produces sizzling steaks, burgers, fish and chicken. But for years the restaurant's soul lay with a gregarious Irishman, owner Kelly Harrington. After his untimely death, his mother Tee, the convivial family matriarch, stepped in to assure that the Tessaro's spirit lives on. Homemade soups, potato salad and coleslaw are her recipes, and she also painted the murals---six brightly colored images depicting family, friends and employees, real people, mingling and enjoying life. Always a contender for producing the best burger in town, the kitchen expands its repertoire by adding way more fish---especially exotic Hawaiian species, including mero, a sustainable cousin to over-fished Chilean sea bass. Among nightly features: Mexican specials rule from Monday evening through Tuesday lunch; Thursday is rib night. Draught beer prevails, though there's a quite basic list of wines by the glass. The restaurant famously doesn't serve dessert. |
