 Three Seventy Common Kitchen + Drink Restaurant Review: Nestled in the building that Sorrento Grill called home for 23 years, this downtown Laguna Beach restaurant comes equipped with an air of familiarity, and with good reason: chef/owner Ryan Adams manned the kitchen as Sorrento’s executive chef, and a healthy dose of Three Seventy Common Kitchen + Drink’s staff also worked at the departed venue. Adams uses this awareness as a launching point to create advanced studies in comfort cuisine peppered with an adventurous streak and plenty of playfulness. The culinary mirth starts with a bowl of daily rotating table snacks and continues through a progression of choices ranging from small bites to large. Creativity is marked throughout, from the Thai-style chicken wings and prosciutto-infused broccolini salad to the bone marrow with chimichurri sauce, smoky foie gras with huckleberry pancakes, and pork loin with a spicy harissa barbecue sauce. Even simple items such as the burger topped with egg, charred onion and chile gets reinvented into entrées that are familiar yet daring. Desserts like the family recipe chocolate cake have a warm, homespun charm. Fans of libations will enjoy the handcrafted cocktails, artisan beers and solid wine list. |
