Sidewalk seating in front gives way to a deli, café and wood-trimmed main dining room in back that’s decorated with images of unusual conical-roofed homes common in Alberobello, Italy. The menu is heavy on Italian classics, all well prepared and boldly seasoned, and the service is down-home friendly. Although it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, the tender, lightly fried calamari with spicy tomato sauce is one of the best around, and the starter of homemade sausages on chunky fava bean purée is a hearty treat. Follow with the veal scallopine, laden with garlic and Italian sausage under a cloak of melted mozzarella cheese, and light-as-air tiramisu. On your way out, grab some marinated olives, imported sausages and cheeses and olive oil from the prepared foods case. |
