Andy Husbands’ contemporary South End eatery just keeps chugging along, and his regulars are always up for the ride. Its success is due in part to its true neighborhood character: energetic and sassy from the open kitchen to the long, narrow dining room, dimly-lit in a hue of pale mustard, to the slightly sleeker adjoining lounge, Sister Sorel. Husbands was a pioneer of high-low fusion, and it's still evident in signature items such as the “stinky cheese” plate with black truffle honey and the Fontina-filled tater tots accompanying grilled steak. Speaking of grilled meat, he’s also a known entity on the barbecue competition circuit, so don't miss those ribs with cornbread and slaw. At times, the juxtaposition of cool Asia and the deep-fried South seems haphazard---but most of the time, Husbands’ touch is as firm as it is playful. The $2 taco Tuesdays also provide a weekday lift.
