TWENTY6 Restaurant Review: TWENTY6 offers a fun, convivial dining experience at the La Quinta Resort & Club. The large dining room features Art Deco design touches such as a stamped-metal ceiling, and there's also a seductive outdoor patio and a bar area with its own menu. This contemporary American bistro is open all day, starting with classic breakfast items and Bacon'd Bloody Marys (plus a buffet on the weekends), moving on to salads and sandwiches at mid-day. The green eggs and ham pizza is sure to be a kid-pleaser. Such creativity is at the heart of the cooking, as is a dedication to house-made ingredients --- ketchup, steak sauce, licorice and beef jerky, to name a few. (Former chef de cuisine Michael Vaughn currently is executive sous chef for the resort.) The kitchen also presents retro "TV Dinners" served in ceramic divided dishes. Other mains might range from hanger steak with garlic tater tots to swordfish piccata with braised Napa cabbage, bacon and caper berries. Try the peanut butter mousse cake or the reverse soda floats for a sense of being back in a slightly skewed version of the 50s: you'll enjoy the ride. The wine list primarily offers American selections, but diners can also choose from California beers, classic cocktails and vintage sodas.
