Underwood Bar & Bistro Restaurant Review: Don’t let the lonely one-block stretch of Graton fool you; you’ll find a bustling crowd of friends just behind the velvet curtain. Stake a spot at the polished bar for retro cocktails with big-city attitude and rub elbows with locals sampling savvy wine picks from Sonoma and yonder. Eat here, opt for a rickety bistro table nearby, or retreat to the somewhat quieter dining room. The menu beckons nibblers with a handful of oyster varietals, salads such as the smoked trout with Meyer lemon crème fraîche, and tapas like garlicky clams with Serrano ham and piquillo peppers or hoisin ribs with mango slaw---which surprise by their zing and generous platings. The ravenous will find soothing stews of Catalan fish or Moroccan lamb, sides of cauliflower gratin, and a juicy burger that’s hard to ignore. Another plus: it’s one of the only late-night dining venues in the county. The service, while amicable, can be scarce and distracted. |
