Chef Avner Samuel’s sleek and chic Urban Bistro serves up a mix of Mediterranean favorites with a modern twist. Be sure to start out with the daily meze platter loaded with dolmas, hummus, falafels and other treats. My Mother’s Salad is a Samuel trademark, a coarsely chopped medley of celery, bell peppers, tomatoes and cucumber in a tangy lemon dressing. Juicy braised lamb shank atop a fragrant pumpkin risotto or the pan-seared diver scallops, seared on the outside and moist and meaty on the inside, served with golden nuggets of Israeli couscous infused with a delicate saffron broth, are always winners. Truffle whipped potatoes evoke the deluxe dishes of Samuel’s super swanky restaurant Aurora. Save room for a trio of crème brûlées for dessert.
