THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Valhalla Restaurant Review:

This historic restaurant was the recipient of Marin County's first liquor license in 1870. Since then it has gone through many incarnations, some illustrious, some dubious, and some delicious. These days some of the old touches can still be seen like the beautiful wood bar and bar back and the fantastic 180-degree view that runs from Tiburon to the north, across Angel Island and the bay to San Francisco's downtown on the south side. The huge wall of windows insures that every seat in the house is guaranteed a slice of the view. Modern touches include a wood-burning oven and a well-trained chef. Sparkling oysters on the half-shell arrive with a choice of Champagne mignonette, cocktail sauce and horseradish sauce. A baby arugula salad matches up the flavors of candied pecans, sliced pear and Point Reyes blue cheese. Crispy fried calamari claims its individuality with a jalapeño rémoulade. Pizzas take full advantage of the wood-burning oven, gaining a crisp crust on which to carry wild mushrooms, roasted garlic and Fontina cheese. Fish dishes seem appropriate to the surroundings and the bouillabaisse stew takes full advantage serving up a steaming bowl of mussels, clams, prawns and scallops in a tomato and saffron broth. Petrale sole adds a French flair with green lentils and a lemon beurre blanc. Meat lovers will enjoy the New York steak with a melting dab of herbed garlic butter on top and french fries on the side. The wine list takes full advantage of the nearby Wine Country, so expect an array of choices with prices to match.
