Uptown’s Vapiano is a hopping go-to spot for the after-work crowd or for families and couples heading to the theater or to a ballgame. The interior offers a variety of seating arrangements amid a thoroughly modern environment. Punches of red enliven the otherwise earth-toned palette. A small bar area in the front opens to an intimate outdoor patio. Featuring a huge pizza and pasta-heavy menu, plus fresh made-to-order salads, Vapiano offers something for everyone. Pasta is made in-house daily and ranges from Crema di Funghi (fresh oyster mushrooms with white wine, cream and fresh parsley) to Pesto Basilico, a homemade basil pesto with roasted pine nuts and Grana Padano. Fresh and light or hearty and heavy, the pizzas are appropriate for two. Desserts range from tiramisu to blueberry cheesecake. A quite decent house Montepulciano tops the standard by-the-glass wine list. Diners settle their tab by swiping a Vapiano card across a reader at each station, then paying at a register upon leaving.
