The Velvet Cactus Restaurant Review

: The Lakeview area is one of the most up-and-coming restaurant destinations in New Orleans. Unlike most of the establishments there, The Velvet Cactus has the feel of a chain restaurant, although it is not part of a bigger corporation. From the long waits for tables to the noisy atmosphere that does not allow easy conversation, to the overly sauced, under-seasoned Tex-Mex fare, The Velvet Cactus disappoints. As for desserts, lemon flan and tres leche cake are too sweet. The Velvet Cactus is worth a trip, however, just to see the colorful, imaginative interior design. Have a margarita and some chips at the bar and then move on for dinner. Service is mediocre.
