Vero Amore Restaurant Review: With two sites --- the original in midtown and one in Marana at Dove Mountain --- Vero Amore has the only “authentic” Italian pizza in town. The honor, bestowed by the Verace Pizza Napoletana Association, doesn’t come easily. Strict adherence to Association guidelines --- the use of a wood-burning oven (which is most visible at Vero Amore), San Marzano tomatoes, 00 flour, homemade mozzarella --- is a requirement for certification. Technique is also strictly monitored. Pizza toppings range from the usual to the offbeat: andouille sausage, for example, or pizza capricciosa with artichoke hearts, mushrooms, olives, prosciutto and homemade mozzarella; all are served atop a light, crispy, crackling crust.
