A classic neighborhood holdover, this red-sauce joint is rather garish, but the décor is appropriate considering the hardly subtle fare. The kitchen does a decent job with some veal dishes and good old eggplant Parmigiana, but it shines with its fried and broiled fish, most notably haddock. Wine is an afterthought, so grab a cocktail and pretend that Dwight and Mamie are still in the White House. The prices won't belie the reverie, and neither will salt-of-the-earth waitresses.
