The Vic Bar + Kitchen Restaurant Review:
Buckeye is hardly known for creative dining, but this restaurant is changing that. In this hideaway tucked in a mountaintop clubhouse overlooking a Verrado golf course, chef Robert Douglas is generating excitement with unexpected dishes like a BTC of candied bacon piled high with heirloom tomato, pickled onions, chile paste and cured jalapeño cheese on focaccia. Big, bold flavors are the rule, like the Thai flatbread spread with coconut-cashew butter sauce, pickled onions, jalapeños, avocado, cilantro, scallions, basil and Sriracha, or the pimento cheese crusted roast tenderloin with purple potato-apple hash and a drizzle of Noble No. 5 finishing vinegar. Surprisingly, the combinations really work. Cocktails are equally adventurous, using rare liquors like Ballotin Caramel Turtle Bourbon.
