There's a spirit of adventure at work in this charming Canadian restaurant near Lake Erie run by the Loop family. Thought and imagination have been lavished on the table appointments, the décor and the highly individual bill of fare that changes every two months. The building it occupies dates to the 1850’s and the brick walls attest to the age as does the memorabilia of the Royal Family---Queen Victoria’s family---along with old silver and framed mirrors. Certain dishes are perennials, including the four-onion soup, the goose liver pâté with a changing fruit purée, an array of cheeses and the Caesar salad. The style of the dishes combines many of the trendy ingredients found in big city restaurants: portobello mushrooms, fresh herbs, Asian spices and sauces, and European cheeses along with local ingredients such as perch and pickerel. Fresh produce from local farms is also a feature at this one-of-a-kind place. All the wines are Canadian and the list of colorful specialty drinks and desserts changes along with the menu. The restaurant is 100 percent non-smoking.
