THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Warung Cafe Restaurant Review:
Complementing sister restaurant Pete’s Café & Bar in the Old Bank District is Warung Café, a hip, edgy eatery offering a menu of small plates with inspirations from throughout Asia. The candlelit, high-ceilinged space is marked by worn brick, contemporary lighting and ample bamboo. Friendly servers shuttle saké cocktails and flavored martinis to a diverse crowd from nearby offices and lofts. Some of the attractively-priced small plates are intensely satisfying, such as ramen noodles with peanut sauce, spicy Indian salad and a rosy three-ounce filet mignon with teriyaki glaze. We are less enthusiastic about the black pepper and garlic chicken wings and sashimi-topped rice cakes, but there’s no doubt a fine, fun meal can be composed from the extensive choice of options, most of which are priced well under $10. For a finale, consider the fried banana or coconut crème brûlée.
