Watermarc Restaurant Review

: Fashioned with a chic metropolitan vibe born from brick walls, dark furniture and a lively bar, the small, two-story Watermarc stands out from the surrounding mélange of galleries and boutiques that dominate downtown Laguna Beach. Chef/partner Marc Cohen uses this backdrop to deliver the type of culinary panache that has proven successful in his other dining venues, 230 Forest and Opah. Groups of friends may look to delve into the large section of tapas-style “grazing plates,” highlighted by the spicy seafood sausage and the tangy blue cheese and pear tarts. The classically prepared filet three ways and the cedar-planked king salmon offer twenty-first-century takes on traditional favorites, especially when accompanied by the creamy artichoke risotto or the herb-crusted cauliflower. For post-dinner decadence, go for the bag of beignets or the white chocolate and macadamia nut bread pudding. In addition to a modest yet solid wine list, the downstairs bar offers several inventive options to accompany the weekend breakfast offerings or for a nightcap.
