| Fashioned with a chic metropolitan vibe born from brick walls, dark furniture and a lively bar, the small, two-story Watermarc stands out from the surrounding mélange of galleries and boutiques that dominate downtown Laguna Beach. Chef-partner Marc Cohen uses this backdrop to deliver the type of culinary panache that has proven successful in his other dining venues, 230 Forest and Opah. Groups of friends may look to delve into the large section of tapas-style “grazing plates,” highlighted by the spicy seafood sausage and the tangy blue cheese pear tarts. The classically prepared filet three ways and the luscious white cedar planked king salmon offer terrific twenty-first century takes on traditional favorites, especially when accompanied by the creamy yet firm artichoke risotto or the herb-encrusted cauliflower. For post-dinner decadence, go for the bag of beignets or the white chocolate macadamia nut bread pudding. In addition to a modest yet solid wine list, the downstairs bar offers several inventive options for a nightcap, including the eponymous pear vodka and Hawaiian ginger-infused Champagne float. |
