| Although this small bistro is located in a boring residential strip mall, its unassuming décor and service is refreshing. The menu changes from day to day and borrows influences from just about everywhere. Sometimes chef James D'Aquila is inspired by Southern cooking---try the crispy buttermilk battered fried chicken or jambalaya pasta with sautéed garlic shrimp and hot sausage. However, he usually relies on Italian and French flavors for his seasonal menus, like thin-crust gourmet pizzas, escargots-stuffed mushrooms, Cognac-flambéed peppered steak filet with a rich Bordeaux sauce, or a macadamia-encrusted Alaskan halibut topped with fresh basil and beurre blanc. For dessert, the house-made ice creams are sweet and rich, but the tarts, cakes, bread puddings and shortcakes are all made with peak seasonal fruits. The wine list, though brief, reflects quality, affordability and whimsy. |
