Who would have thought that what East Lakeview residents really needed---and wanted---was an Oscar Wilde-inspired pub with all the traditional trimmings? But step inside this handsome spot---think dark wood, big leather booths, two fireplaces, stained-glass domes---and you’ll find a lively crowd (and somewhat atypical menu) almost any night of the week. In a 'hood full of restaurants and bars that cater either to the local gay clientele or frat boys, Wilde Bar & Restaurant manages to work for everyone (there’s even a kids’ menu). The main menu is plenty diverse, ranging from curried mussels to chili-rubbed grilled shrimp to Caesar salad. But you can easily skip all that and grab a fine pint of Guinness and a plush leather chair in the “library” instead. Good luck reading after you've had a couple, though. Oh, and if you’re looking for something sweet, settle on a chunky Granny Smith crumble.
