| Though the tiny hamlet of Graton (just west of Santa Rosa) barely registers as a blip on most travelers' radar screens, hungry diners find their way to Willow Wood Market Café for down-home, Sunday supper-type food. The menu features daily specials like corn chowder or Thai-spiced salmon, as well as roasted chicken and filet mignon for bigger appetites, and creamy signature polenta dishes such as the spicy roasted vegetable ragoût or garlicky rock-shrimp versions. This ain't fancy, mind you. Hardwood floors, simple bistro tables, and a tight bar feel nostalgic and country-like. Only the wine list reveals an urbane underbelly. Willow Wood is an especially great place to wake up, with an extensive breakfast menu and mighty special additions for Sunday brunch like ham and Jarlsberg-stuffed french toast topped with berries and maple butter, Florentine eggs, and mimosas. Loosen your belt before heading off to nearby wineries. |
