The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar Restaurant Review: This multi-level property located in the Mariner’s Mile district makes the most of its perch on Newport Harbor. Large windows afford bayside views from the first floor dining room and bar, and the second-floor outdoor patio and cigar lounge allow guests to take in the area’s essence. Seafaring patrons can also take advantage of the private dock. It all provides the backdrop for guests to dive into the wine list, as oenophiles will enjoy selecting from an array of international labels. Executive chef Yvon Goetz creates his take on Napa Valley cuisine along with a few other surprises. Starters like the Colorado buffalo carpaccio and the seared ahi capture the restaurant’s ambience in different ways, while the massive seafood tower smartly taps into the city’s decadent leanings. Contemporary main courses include grilled steaks, chili lime-rubbed mahi mahi and rotisserie free-range chicken. Goetz also features a daily rotation of proper game dishes highlighting venison, kangaroo and more. For dessert, try the fresh seasonal fruit cobbler.
