Wit & Wisdom, A Tavern by Michael Mina, Baltimore, MD

Wit & Wisdom, A Tavern by Michael Mina Restaurant Review

: It’s billed as a “tavern,” but this is the Four Seasons, after all. Wit & Wisdom, which was devised by famed San Francisco restaurateur Michael Mina, is handsome and posh, with a flowing open plan, lots of light, and glass walls that look out on the water. The food also tips its hat to comforting pub fare --- lobster corn dogs and the Bourbon Steak burger are Mina signatures --- and the menu leans to regional, wood-grilled seafood and steaks. But make no mistake, this is fine dining with a price tag to match, and executive chef Zack Mills turns it out with panache. (Take a chance on the roasted bone marrow.) Specialties include a prix-fixe A Taste of Maryland menu featuring such dishes as JM Clayton crab cocktail, pumpkin cavatelli, Atlantic golden tilefish, veal osso buco and specialty cheeses. Among executive pastry chef Dyan Ng’s desserts are the beignets with foie gras, honey and Nutella. And the bar, which offers an interesting wine list and creative cocktails, is a mecca for Baltimore’s chicest citizens.
