THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Wooden Nickel Restaurant Review:
Chicken soup with hand-cut noodles is the time-honored specialty at this bite-sized place that has been serving soups, chili and solid sandwiches since 1967. This is the lunch counter of old, with a few small tables in addition to the seats at the counter, all crammed into small quarters that seem cozy rather than cramped. The help is courteous and friendly, and this is a good spot to know about for anyone whose travels take them to the far east side of the city. In addition to the chicken soup, beef barley is always available, along with sandwiches ranging from corned beef, pastrami, baked ham, egg salad and club sandwiches served with waffle chips and a variety of relishes. Desserts include house-made cakes, tapioca or bread pudding and apple pie. Nothing on the menu goes any higher than $6.75.
