Woody's Famous Philadelphia Cheesesteaks Restaurant Review: Woody's has anchored the corner Virginia Avenue and Monroe Drive since 1975 and through two owners. While famous for its Philly cheesesteak, for which sautéed onions are a must in our view, we find the bread less crusty than we desire and the flavor not quite up to par. So we like to stick with the hot dogs and polish sausage, reserving the sautéed onions for the latter. Italian sausages are another of our preferred treats. The wait for a table inside can be long, and the place is popular for late noshing, as late as 4 a.m. on weekends. As there’s a high school right across the street, Woody's gets jammed at lunch, too. A very tasty milk shake is a good quaff to go with any of these items, although decent beers also are available.
