 York Street is housed in an understated, easy-to-miss building, but the stylish black and gray interior assures diners they’ve arrived at a destination restaurant. Chef Sharon Hage has made it her mission to give full meaning to the overused “seasonal” and “local” jargon. The menu changes daily, so you might enjoy littleneck clams one day and then have beans and cornbread the next. Whatever the ingredients may be, their appeal lies in the masterful way that Hage combines them. Seasonal sides such as okra and melon are paired with braised veal or thick, juicy pork chops in a deliberately casual presentation. Desserts tend towards cobblers, tarts and crisps, not towering spun sugar fantasies. Wines by the glass are suggested for each entrée and the well-structured wine list, though not extensive, is full of interesting choices at reasonable prices.
