Zamarod Afghan Cuisine Restaurant Review

: Zamarod may be tiny, but it offers exciting and sometimes unfamiliar Afghani fare. What, you may wonder, is bulanee kachalu (a pastry turnover stuffed with potatoes) and samaaroq palaow (chunks of chicken breast cooked with yogurt and vegetables and served over rice)? Of course, the menu and the affable owner/chef explains it all, and the food turns out to be an exotic treat. Lunch or dinner should kick off with an order of dumplings filled with ground beef and topped with a special meat sauce, nicely mopped up with wedges of bread. We recommend the lamb, either the char-broiled leg or in a kind of curry. Dinnertime possibilities extend to kebabs, hummus and pan-seared salmon. A special vegetarian menu is available. Desserts include baklava. The wine list is short but sweet.
