Zippy’s is a local fast-food chain that’s two restaurants in one, plus a bakery. Each location has a plate lunch-style side that’s all bright plastic and molded seats. But go through the other door and you often find yourself in a pleasant dining room. This location has a dining room. The food is basically the same on either side. Saimin and sushi nestle on the menu alongside bacon and eggs, burgers, and several varieties of plate lunch. The chili is famous; President Clinton ate it atop a burrito on his last trip at the Hawaii Kai location. The restaurant side now serves fresh fish nightly. It’s always the best bet. Two can eat for about $12, with iced tea for each. A few locations serve alcohol and the wine has been upgraded from horrible to passable.
