| A faux stone façade, created to convey the look and feel of a Middle Eastern building, is what greets diners at this cozy and casual neighborhood restaurant serving surprisingly upscale Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes. Inside, the same faux stone motif repeats against bright yellow walls, creating an inviting and charming atmosphere. One bite of the lahmi hummus layered with spiced ground beef makes it difficult to revert to the basic version. Tender mesquite-grilled kebabs are made from lamb, chicken or, our favorite, filet mignon. The national dish of Jordan, mansaf, is offered here as well: lamb braised in yogurt and served with rice, almonds and pine nuts. The best seat in the house is on the enclosed patio, kept warm with heat lamps, where guests can also relax with flavored hookahs. Desserts include traditional sweets such as tiramisu, or more exotic choices such as Lebanese kenafe---baked phyllo dough layered with honey and sweet cheese. |
