 Z's can offer the freshest ocean-going fare because treasures from the deep are flown in daily. Starting your meal with an array of sweet-to-briny oysters on the half shell and an icy gin martini is almost a must, although the flavorful, truly jumbo shrimp run a close second. Depending on the fishing boats' catches, the daily seafood specials are changeable, but Hawaiian fish, such as wahoo and butterfish, make frequent appearances. The house-aged steaks are nicely seared. Order the filet or the New York strip medium rare. The tender rack of lamb is served with the bones separated from the hearts of the chops, and they are included alongside. (Do not fail to pick these up with your fingers and nibble the meat from the bones.) Shareable sides include sautéed spinach with butter and lots of garlic, and Jack Daniels-infused mashed sweet potatoes. For dessert, there’s crème brûlée. The wine list has selections appropriate to both meat and seafood. More half bottles would be welcome for multi-course pairings, but there are flights, which offer opportunities to discover new wines. The subtlety lit main dining room is partitioned with fish tanks, making each corner feel intimate. The Art Deco bar is a favorite venue for more casual dining.
