J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines
2009 Vineyard Series Fog's Reach Pinot Noir

Arroyo Seco, CA

Vintner Jerry Lohr is considered a pioneer of the Central Coast wine region, having planted his first vines in 1972. From that original 280 acres of vineyards, J. Lohr has grown to include 900 acres over several California regions and climates. Today, the winery is represented by multiple labels including: J. Lohr Estates; J. Lohr Gesture; Painter Bridge; Cypress Vineyards and two limited-production series, J. Lohr Cuvee and the J. Lohr Vineyard Series. The Vineyard Series was created to showcase the best of each of these regions' soils and climates with hand-selected fruit from the finest vineyard enclaves. A stand-out in this series, the 2009 Fog's Reach Pinot Noir offers aromas of strawberry, cherry and a touch of vanilla with an underlying herbal note. Bright on the palate, its flavors are pretty with raspberry, strawberry and black cherry notes up front and a stronger, earthier accent at the back of the palate. An approachable Pinot, it is a wine that is ready to drink now but would evolve with a year or two of aging. Try it with seared duck breast in cherry sauce, herb-rubbed, grilled pork or soy sauce-marinated, grilled portobello mushroom caps.
