CaCao Mexicatessen, Los Angeles, CA

CaCao Mexicatessen Restaurant Review

: This three-meal-a-day eatery in Eagle Rock, with its backdrop of warm terra cotta colors and lucha libre wrestling memorabilia, offers an eat-in or take-out dining experience, as well as signature hot chocolate with a hint of chile. Breakfast burritos, organic blue cornmeal-pumpkin pancakes and a spicy Benedict are good ways to begin the day, while later on, tacos --- some with unexpected ingredients like huitlacoche, duck confit or squash blossoms --- are offered, as well as Yucatán-style cochinita pibil. The fish tacos and fries bathed in mole are worth checking out, too, and the vegetarian fare is quite enticing, even if you don’t normally roll that way. Despite being a quick-service place, CaCao has a more compelling menu than most Mexican restaurants in L.A. In addition, the restaurant’s Vinos Del Valle wine bar specializes in wines and craft beer from Baja.
