Cafe Beaujolais Restaurant Review:

One might not expect to find an authentic French joint in Eagle Rock, but this neighborhood eatery serves up more genuine bistro charm than most of its better-known Westside counterparts. Café Beaujolais is housed in an old bungalow and features a big wooden bar, beamed ceilings, and walls lined with colorful French beverage posters and reproductions of Impressionist art. The French owners offer attentive service and the kind of simple, unpretentious fare you'd find at a family-run bistro on a quiet side street in Paris. Starters include escargots de Bourgogne with a splash of Pastis, as well as bay shrimp and scallops Saint-Jacques. Pan-fried rainbow trout in lemon-butter sauce with bay shrimp and mushrooms, pork tenderloin in a Calvados sauce, traditional steak frites, and rack of lamb in mustard sauce make for larger plates. For dessert, opt for the profiteroles or tarte Tatin. The small but select wine list is, unsurprisingly, French, and offers good value.
