One might not expect to find an authentic French joint in Eagle Rock, but this delightful neighborhood eatery serves up more genuine bistro charm than most of its better-known Westside counterparts. Café Beaujolais is housed in an old bungalow and features a big wooden bar, beamed ceilings, white linen-covered tables and walls lined with colorful French beverage posters and reproductions of Impressionist art. The French owners offer attentive service and the kind of simple, unpretentious fare you'd find at a family-run bistro on a quiet side street in Paris: escargots de Bourgogne with a splash of pastis, pan-fried rainbow trout in lemon butter sauce with bay shrimp and mushrooms, and pork tenderloin in Armagnac sauce with prunes. For dessert, opt for the profiteroles or tarte Tatin.
