THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Figa Restaurant Review:
It's easy to walk by this Greenwich Village Italian eatery without noticing it. The minimal décor---save for the photos of Sophia Loren and Anouk Aimée---that grace the charcoal black walls doesn't exactly invite you in. But then again, owner Rolando Biamonte and executive chef, Massimo Stecchi (formerly of Da Silvano and Cinque Terre), probably wouldn't want it any other way: the emphasis here is on stylish upscale dishes, such as the tender rack of lamb sautéed with rosemary or the fresh red snapper wrapped up in parchment paper. The many primi pasta dishes---more classic than cutting edge---are memorable. The tagliatelle with meat sauce and pesto is a house favorite. For cheese lovers, the Caprese salad boasts mozzarella di bufala that's flown in regularly from Italy.
