Ichima Restaurant Review:
Tucked into the corner of a shopping center parking lot is this reliable, albeit unremarkable, neighborhood Japanese restaurant with a horseshoe-shaped sushi bar and traditional décor. The sushi is hardly first-rate, but the prices are agreeable and most fish represents reasonably good quality. Typical appetizers include avocado-stuffed eggrolls, soft shell crab, and yellowtail collar. Some dishes underwhelm --- pasty tuna tartare slathered on wonton chips topped with tempura crumbs --- but are generously plated and manage to satisfy a quick fix. A wide selection of rolls, such as the "lava lamp" --- albacore and baked salmon inside, topped with seared garlic and tempura flakes --- keeps the regulars happy, along with decent teriyaki dishes. Dessert takes the form of fried bananas and ice cream.
