![]() : The first thing one should know about the Greenwich Village outpost of the iconic burger joint J.G. Melon is that it’s technically not really an outpost at all. It’s not run by the owners of the original uptown eatery. But they did give it their blessing. The proprietors of the Village spot have done a fine job of reproducing the predecessor, all the way down to the green-checked tablecloths and other décor elements. The second thing of note is that the burger, a thick, juicy patty topped with American cheese and crispy bacon between a soft, non-intrusive bun, gives its Upper East Side step-sibling a run for its money. Pair it with the silver dollar-size fries and a pint of beer from among the handful of brews on tap and you’ve got a hearty, classic American meal in the Village. |
