La Cafette, Brooklyn, NY

La Cafette Restaurant Review

About the restaurant & décor: This charming 29-seat bistro emphasizing French cuisine crafted with locally grown and sustainably sourced ingredients has the makings of a soon-to-be Williamsburg favorite. The dining space, characterized by a tin plate panel ceiling, a wood floor and colorful decorative accents, merges rustic and casually chic elements to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Likes: Well-executed fare and fresh ingredients.
Dislikes: The table settings were slightly cramped.

Food & Drinks: The menu features traditional fare such as creamy foie gras terrine and stewed pearl onions. Steak tartare served with shallots, cornichons, chives and mustard is another standout among the appetizers. Entrées are similarly well prepared and include tender roast chicken with house potatoes. A forty-ounce prime rib with potatoes and a duo of sauces --- be prepared to share --- should please carnivores and French culinary purists alike. An indulgent cheesecake and delicate profiteroles highlight the limited but enticing dessert selection. A carefully chosen wine list features French varietals that pair well with the food.
