THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Markt Restaurant Review:
At the very heart of New York's Meatpacking District, the Belgian restaurant Markt ironically relies on seafood to fill its atmospheric woody interior and 60 sidewalk seats. Patrons enjoying grilled ahi with tapenade watch as white-jacketed meatpacking workers wheel sides of beef into the refrigerators of nearby wholesalers. Markt's menu extends to waffles, lamb chops, chicken and Muscovy duck as well as traditional mussel preparations. Belgian chocolate lends a new level of lush to sinful specialties like mousse and tarts. A long and welcoming bar orchestrates many genevers (gins) from Belgium, and for each of the many Belgian beers, there is its own special glass to showcase it properly. Markt is uproarious when filled, and its hard wooden bench seats seem best suited to the young.
