If you are able to infiltrate the restaurant's phone lines and then gain entry past the intimidating gentleman guarding the door --- it won't be a problem if your name is George (Clooney) or Angelina (Jolie) --- you will find one of L.A.'s most spectacular outdoor terraces. There is also a tiny indoor dining room at the legendary Château Marmont, but you should really insist on settling in under the palm trees, with the gothic arches of the colonnade in the background. The menu has appetizers like Wagyu beef carpaccio, bacon-wrapped dates, Moroccan lamb meatballs, and wild salmon tartare. Entrées come in large portions and there is a daily special. Try the moules frites in coconut curry broth, spaghetti Bolognese, New York steak frites, or roasted halibut with saffron and grilled lemon. Desserts feature a crème fraîche panna cotta with blueberry compote, and spiced poached pear with honey mascarpone and pistachios. The wine list carries more labels from France than Italy and California, the only three areas represented here.
