Opened by two San Francisco transplants, this comfortable, wood-bedecked eatery serves locally sourced foods whenever possible. The menu changes, but one of the standout starters that’s always available is the kale salad with clothbound cheddar, crispy melon, toasted almonds, lemon dressing and pecorino. The house-made head cheese, with pastured pork, pickled vegetable salad, Dijon and crostini, is another favorite. Entrées may include roasted chicken with braised collards, bacon, lemon and natural jus; meatballs made with heritage pork, marinara and pecorino; and Hudson Valley pork (the cut varies) with bean ragoût. Northern Spy is known for its desserts and with good reason. We recommend the chocolate pot de crème loaded with graham cracker bits and marshmallow. And on your way out, be sure to grab one of the salted caramels on the counter.
