Sushi Roku, Santa Monica, CA

Sushi Roku Restaurant Review

: This branch of Sushi Roku has become a local favorite for its lively scene and nouveau sushi. Film industry crowds gather inside the sleekly modern surroundings nightly. They share such exotic appetizers as tuna tataki salad, monkfish pâté and rock shrimp popcorn tempura, followed by a wide variety of sushi including a roll filled with shrimp and deep-fried jalapeño peppers, and sea bass with shredded deep-fried yams. There will always be a creative offering from the daily specials. In keeping with the times, a gluten-free menu ranges from rib eye-wrapped asparagus to a baked lobster roll, and a daily happy hour offers well-priced bites like albacore tacos and sea bass spring rolls. Wash it all down with saké or such potent specialty drinks as the Tokyo Rose, a blend of saké, plum wine, Triple Sec and a splash of cranberry juice. Conservative drinkers will find a complete selection of beers and interesting wines.
