THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Tonic Restaurant Review:
Two seemingly incongruous rooms---a tavernlike front one with dark wood paneling and a magnificent carved wood bar and an airy, feminine dining room with exquisite flower arrangements---make up this contemporary restaurant. The place is the creation of Scott Carney, ex-general manager of the Gotham Bar & Grill and Chris Gesulaldi, ex-chef of Montrachet. The tavern serves simple, traditional fare that is often embellished with creative twists like crisp fish and chips. In the dining room, the offerings are more sophisticated---think truffle-crusted salmon and Parmesan-crusted Chilean sea bass. Service is solicitous---almost to the point of distraction, at times---but servers are knowledgeable.
