Tokaj-Hegyalja, a region in northern Hungary where Tokaji wines are produced, is the world's first and oldest wine appellation, established in 1730. Many different wines are produced there, including dry Tokaji and Tokaji aszú, a sweet dessert wine made from botrytis-infected grapes. Tokaji wines, like those from Bordeaux, are typically blended from a number of approved varietals: Furmint, Hárslevelu, Yellow Muscat, Zéta, Kövérszolo and Kabar.
