| When it comes to comfortable dining, 13 is a lucky number indeed. The restaurant is named for the thirteen British colonies that became the United States. Dripping with contemporary style, warmed by moody lighting, caramel leather and plenty of wood, the restaurant offers tasty versions of standard American pub fare, from spicy chicken wings and burgers to the ubiquitous cheesesteak. The lump crab cakes are first-rate while the pulled pork sliders bear comparison to the gold standard, which would be a cochon de lait po’ boy served at Jazz Fest in N’Awlins. Calorie counters are mostly out of luck here, although chef Judson Branch does offer simply grilled fish and grilled chicken with arugula salad to offset the likes of lobster mac ‘n’ cheese and baby-back ribs. Banks of flat-screens make this, and the Circ lobby bar, a magnet for sports fans. When the weather is warm, the Terrace at 13 delivers al fresco dining in a lushly planted outdoor scene. |
