Great Wine List* Click here for rating key
Named after restaurateur-partner Agostini Sciandri, AGO is a true Los Angeles classic, catering to the stars, moguls and the happy few. It's no wonder given that the other partners include Robert De Niro, Tony and Ridley Scott, Bob and Harvey Weinstein, Gianni Nunnari and Meir Tepper. The glitzy clientele comes here for casual Italian food on the al fresco terrace, bordered by cypress, olive trees and covered with tendrils of grapevines and bougainvillea, or in the somewhat rustic dining room. The open kitchen and bar add ambience to the space. Sciandri, who opened another celebrity-fueled restaurant, Toscana, in Brentwood, oversees the menu, complemented by many specials of the day. You will find antipasti and insalate such as mixed fried fish; baby artichokes and frisée topped with shaved Parmesan; beet salad with greens, walnuts and Gorgonzola; vegetable soup with pesto; and very thin, crispy-crusted pizzas for appetizers. Move on to the pasta (quite a long list) and risotto before ordering whitefish, grilled salmon, a veal chop Milanese served with roasted potatoes and checca, or a baby rack of lamb cooked in a wood-burning oven. Have fun with the desserts and order an assortment of house tarts (a delicious chocolate version, and banana) or tiramisu. The wine list is quite impressive with Italian, French, Californian and Spanish selections. This is the perfect place if you want to feel like a star in a relaxed atmosphere.
